Madame Tussauds Sydney honours the Irwin's with new figures of Steve and Robert - Travel Weekly (4)

Edited by Travel Weekly

Wildlife Warrior, Robert Irwin, came face-to-face with his own wax figure at Madame Tussauds Sydney three days before his 21st birthday.

The conservationist, photographer, and television personality, known for his boundless enthusiasm and love for animals, couldn’t contain his excitement as he stood side by side with his wax doppelganger.

The unveiling marked a historic moment for Madame Tussauds Sydney, as Robert Irwin became the youngest Australian ever to be immortalised in wax. Wearing the iconic Australia Zoo khakis, Robert’s wax figure holds a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera with a wax woma python draped casually across the lens.

“I’m honoured to be recognised at Madame Tussauds Sydney with my own wax figure,” Robert Irwin said. “Standing face-to-face with this incredible likeness is a truly surreal experience and offers a unique opportunity to share my messages of conservation with an even wider audience. I would like to thank the Madame Tussauds team for creating something so phenomenal, and I’m thrilled to share this moment with everyone.”

Robert’s wax figure, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship of Madame Tussauds’ artists, required over 100 measurements and 300 reference photos to achieve its startling likeness.

“Robert Irwin has captured the hearts of people around the world with his passion for wildlife and his infectious energy,” Madame Tussauds Sydney general manager, Richard Dilly, said. “As one of our most requested celebrities, it’s clear that Robert’s impact on conservation resonates deeply with people on a global scale. We’re excited to welcome him, both in person and in wax, to Madame Tussauds Sydney.”

The arrival of Robert’s wax figure continues the Irwin family’s legacy at Madame Tussauds, joining his father Steve Irwin’s wax figure in the new “Wild Australia” zone. Guests can enter the tropical paradise, where the spirit of Queensland’s Daintree Rainforest comes alive through towering rainforest canopies and an authentic wildlife soundscape. The tribute is completed with a lifelike saltwater crocodile makes itself right at home in the space.

In a touching moment that added depth to the celebratory occasion, Robert had the opportunity to see his father’s wax figure for the first time.
