Hello,
Though I am sure Paradox/Colossal Order cannot say that Cities Skylines II is officially supported via Crossover, I was wondering if any of the developers used MacOS and had tried playing the game via Crossover to see if it would possibly work. Im sure MacOS CS players would be very interested in this as a possible means of playing the game until Paradox/Colossal Order decide on bringing the game to Mac (or finish the MacOS version if there is one in development that we are unaware of).
Thank you,
ua

Hi, I it is not working through Crossover unfortunately. I tried literally everything, every setting in Paradox Launcher, it’s just getting stuck on loading screen, and is not showing even a menu

I have tried to get it working with Whiskey, but when I launch it tries to install the Paradox Launcher, but that installation wizard fails and the game does not launch. Is there a way to skip the launcher?

City Planner Plays (the top C:S streamer on YouTube) has had several days to try to get C:S working on Mac. He couldn't get it working on Crossover and said it was unplayable on Parallels. See the final rows of the final tab of this spreadsheet.
Mac was mentioned in the Reddit AMA. I don't remember exactly what the answer was, but it wasn't a definite "yes".

there is some progress, when i launch C:SII in windowed mode through Crossover, previously changed the windows resolution to lowest in Paradox Launcher, of you wait for a game to load for like 5-10 minutes, it loads, and shows the menu, sometimes it freezes forever, so you have to hard reboot mac, or it gives like 10-15 seconds to start a game, but when the game starts loading, it freezes in the loading screen of save, and again, you have to hard reboot your mac, because the cursor doesn’t want to go outside the window to stop the process via Crossover.

Here's the quote from the AMA:
There are no plans currently, so no date but we have not forgotten OSX exists
Given the performance challenges right now, I'm not sure it would run well even on a Silicon Mac. Maybe once they're in a state they can launch on other platforms, though like you said that is not a definite commitment.

I got it working, well, the Paradox Launcher, by following these steps on the Whisky wiki:
- Create a new Windows 10 bottle
- Install in Steam as normal
- Go back to Whisky, and press File > Kill All Bottles
- On your bottle click Winetricks...
- Run the following command
Code:
dotnet48 win10
- Note
This WILL require user interaction and will likely take a rather long time to complete- Start Cities: Skylines 2 from Steam as normal

Have you tried this? If yes, what hardware did you use, and does the game has playable fps?

Unfortunately only the launcher (which crashed on install before applying this fix). Game crashes after showing a black screen for about half a minute. Using a Macbook Pro with an M2 Pro chip and 32 GB of RAM.
Hoping to find a fix sometime soon, but so far no luck.

so, I tried to launch Cities: Skylines II via Parallels, and it launches, and it’s even possible to start a new game, but, at least on M1 Pro with 16GB of Unified Memory and on the lowest settings you can get like 2-10 fps in game.

Sorry, what do you mean by an M1 Mac Pro? The Apple Silicon Mac Pro has only been made with an M2 Ultra.

Thanks. Which model and what specs? I have an M1 Mac Mini and an M2 Macbook Air and am curious to know what might work on them.

MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 M1 Max 64 GB
Depth of Field Mode: Disabled
Dynamic Resolution Scale Quality: Disabled
Fog Quality Settings: Disabled
Volumetrics Quality Settings: Disabled
Global Illumination Settings: Dsiabled
Motion Blur: Disabled
Level of Detail: Low
All others are set to High
I am not an expert - I got this from reddit initially so one of these might not be very impactful. I think Ir had Depth of Field Mode mattered most. It doesn't run amazingly but it is infinitely better than before I disabled these.
